What’s new?
Three renovated campuses, funded by the district’s $1.26 billion 2023 bond, will open this year in FBISD, including:
- Ferndell Henry Elementary School, formerly Ferndell Henry Center for Learning, will open, with some Heritage Rose Elementary School students being rezoned to the inaugural campus.
- Aldridge Elementary School will open at the renovated Bluegate Elementary School campus and consolidate students previously zoned to Bluegate and Blue Ridge elementary schools from the 2023-24 school year.
- Mission Elementary School will reopen at the renovated Mission Glen campuses and consolidate students previously zoned to Mission Bend and Mission Glen Elementary Schools from the 2023-24 school year.
Additionally, the district is expanding its prekindergarten programs for 4-year-olds to 46 campuses and its pre-K 3 programs to six campuses through a partnership with BakerRipley.
What’s changing?
Administrators have recommended changes to the district’s telecommunications device policy to no longer allow the use of personal devices, including cellphones, tablets and headphones, during the school day, following the passage of House Bill 1481 in June.
While older students’ devices must remain in a backpack or locker, students from pre-K through first grade are still not permitted to bring devices to campus, per district documents.
The policy will be voted on Aug. 11, and will go into effect on the first day of school, Jaretha Jordan, deputy superintendent of teaching and learning said.
Important to note
Bus schedules
FBISD provides transportation for K-12 students who live two or more miles from their assigned school, based on the shortest route via public roads as measured by the district’s routing system, per the website.
Transportation is also offered to students attending Programs of Choice, living in hazardous route areas or placed at overflow campuses, with pick-up typically from a nearby elementary school for special programs, according to the website.
A bus route locator will be available on the district’s website as of Aug. 6, per the website.
Nutrition
All students pay $2.00 for breakfast, while lunch cost varies by school level: $2.75 for elementary and $3.00 for secondary students, according to the website. Students at select campuses are eligible for free lunch, while other students must apply to receive benefits, per the website.Check out key information to prepare your family for the first day of school at Katy ISD.
