“I want to thank our exceptional community members who felt called to submit applications for the vacant trustee position,” Tassin said at the July 28 board meeting. “Your interest and dedication to the district and the children it serves is so very valuable to our community.”
How we got here
Tassin solicited applications from interested candidates in the district’s East Division, which represents the Dulles, Elkins, Hightower, Willowridge, Ridge Point and Marshall high schools, from June 23 to July 7.
Applicants had to meet several qualifications, including being a U.S. citizen, 18 years old or older and a registered voter in the East Division, per the district’s website. If selected, the new trustee would have served until the end of Jones’ term in May.
After the board of trustees evaluated the submitted applications July 21, Tassin said members decided to wait until the May election to let voters decide on the new trustee. The new member was set to begin their term Aug. 4.
“Perhaps because we need to bring different perspectives and voices representing different segments of our community, we as a board were unable to reach consensus on one candidate at this time,” Tassin said.
Next steps
The FBISD board election will take place May 3, 2026, according to the district’s website. Candidates can file for the position from Jan. 15, 2026, to Feb.14, 2026, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.
In the meantime, Tassin said existing board members continue to work with Superintendent Marc Smith and his team to “level up” as the best district in the state.
