Fort Bend ISD seeks to hire approximately 50 bus drivers and 15 bus driver trainees during its Jan. 7 hiring event.
What you need to know
The hiring event will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the FBISD Hodges Bend Bus Terminal at 16707 Bissonnet St., Houston, according to a district news release.
Per the release, interested applicants should:
- Register online ahead of the event, if possible
- Apply for the jobs they’re interested in pursuing on the district website
- Be prepared for on-the-spot interviews with members of district’s transportation team
FBISD offers bus drivers a starting pay of $20.41 an hour, while bus driver trainees start at $15.71 an hour. Full-time bus drivers are eligible for benefits and retirement packages, according to the district's website.
Work schedules include evenings, weekends and holidays off, according to the district’s website.
Additionally, FBISD offers paid training while hirees obtain their Commercial Drivers License.
For both positions, applicants must be 21 years old. Bus driver trainees must have a minimum of two years of experience with a valid driver’s license. Hired trainees have 90 days to complete their commercial driver’s license, district officials said in an email. Bus drivers are required to have their CDL, while one year of experience as a commercial driver is preferred, according to the job description.
In December, FBISD hosted a hiring event for teachers, paraprofessionals, nurses and counselors to staff existing campuses for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.
In the spring, FBISD will host a separate hiring event for Ferndell Henry Elementary School, which will open in August, Community Impact reported.
What else?
While the Jan. 7 event is specifically for bus driver and bus driver trainee positions, applicants are encouraged to apply to other positions as they open on the district’s website, according to the release.
