A Sugar Land bakery has announced its closing after 15 years of serving treats.

The overview

The Sweet Boutique Bakery will serve its last sweet treats on Aug. 3, owners Christine and Martin Nguyen confirmed.

The bakery announced its closing in a July 24 Facebook post, where the Nguyens cited multiple challenges including the slow economy, rising cost of ingredients and rents, as well as Hurricane Beryl.

Zooming in

The shop, located in Sugar Land Town Square, began as an at-home hobby before becoming a full-time occupation for the couple.

The menu features changing grab-and-go treats including mochi donuts, cupcakes, cookies and brownies, as well as customized orders, according to its website. Additionally, the shop offers decorating classes.

Why they’re saying

“It’s been an amazing journey for us, and we have loved serving the Sugar Land community,” Martin Nguyen said. “We tried to hang on as much as possible because we know that we have a great following and great customers that have come to us over the years and supported us. That is the biggest heartache we had, ... and we will miss them as much as they will miss us.”

What else?

Ahead of its closing at the beginning of August, the bakery will host themed-days and offer back-to-school treats, according to the post.

Additionally, the company will honor all custom orders already placed, Martin Nguyen said.
