Code 49 Burger, formerly and endearingly known by customers as The Sauer Kraut Grill, will close the doors on its Richmond location and return to the mobile kitchen in its food truck Dec. 2. This comes after four years of operating at the brick-and-mortar.The eatery pivoted from serving German cuisine to a limited burger menu Nov. 3 and decreased their hours due to staffing shortages, per the business's website. The owner, Eric Morse, cited a "remarkable drop" in sales in 2023, with an even more impactful decrease in the fall in a later Facebook post.
Morse did not respond for further comment by press time, though another post on social media states they will be remodeling the food truck ahead of a tour of the Texas Hill Country that begins April in New Braunfels.
