Fort Bend County reported 87 new cases of the coronavirus June 9. This marks the highest single-day number of new cases since the coronavirus pandemic began and the third day in less than a week that there have been more than 80 new cases.
Community Impact Newspaper has reached out to Fort Bend County Health and Human Services about the higher number of new cases. The department did not immediately provide a response.
The cases reported June 9 bring the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Fort Bend County to 2,225. Of those, there are 1,331 active cases, 847 reported recoveries and 47 deaths.
The county reported 27 additional recoveries and zero new deaths June 9.
The number of hospitalizations has increased slightly. There are currently 23 people in the county hospitalized with the coronavirus, up from an average of 19.6 last week.
Fort Bend County closed its public coronavirus testing facilities at 2 p.m. June 9 because of the heat index, which was close to 110 degrees, according to a Facebook post by County Judge KP George.
AccessHealth, in partnership with Fort Bend County, has performed 15,574 tests across the county’s free public testing locations, according to the most recent information available online.
At the time of publication, Fort Bend County had not updated their maps showing where in the county new cases had occurred.
