Although opening day for the Sugar Land Skeeters has been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, the organization announced that starting April 1, Constellation Field will serve as a personal protective equipment donation site.

Constellation Field will be open for donations from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and collected items will be donated to Memorial Hermann Health System, according to a Skeeters news release.

The decision to collect medical equipment at Constellation Field comes during a national shortage of PPE and as first responders across Texas worry about running low on necessary supplies.

“We have a giant space that's not being used right now,” Skeeters President Chris Hill said. “Memorial Hermann is one of our partners, and we talked to them in a meeting earlier this week, and they said, ‘We'd love it if you guys could help us with that,’ and we said, ‘Absolutely.’”

While the release said Memorial Hermann has a steady supply of PPE for its health care workers, donations will help maintain that supply.

Hill said Constellation Field will serve as a donation site for as long as this is a need in the community.

All donated items should be unopened and unused and will be inspected before being distributed to health care facilities.

Residents can donate the following items:

  • alcohol wipes

  • bleach wipes

  • sanitation wipes

  • alcohol-based hand sanitizers that meet CDC recommendation of 60% ethanol or higher

  • face shields

  • medical-grade N95 masks

  • surgical masks

  • isolation gowns

  • shoe and boot covers

Hill said he encourages the community to stay safe during this time so that they can get back to the ballpark later this year.

“We cannot wait to have fans in this ballpark,” Hill said. “We want everyone to be safe so that you can come and enjoy the ballpark in a couple months. Our season will be delayed, but we will make the absolute best of it and have great, affordable, family-fun entertainment for everybody at some point this year.”
