The backstory
The Burgess’ journey to Missouri City began when their oldest son attended Texas Southern University. Frequent trips to visit him sparked a fondness for the area, which culminated in an eventual permanent move four years ago to be closer to their children and granddaughter, Michael Burgess said.
Once settled, the couple—who were previously restaurant owners in St. Louis— saw an opportunity to bring something new to the community: a family-run restaurant where everyone could find something they loved "under one roof,” Michael Burgess said.
“One kid wants a burger, another wants chicken, someone else wants fish—you shouldn’t have to drive to three different places," he said. "So we said, ‘Let’s make it a one-stop shop,’ and offer a variety of things.”
What’s on the menu
Michael Burgess said the restaurant offers a variety of dishes designed for families who often have to visit multiple restaurants to satisfy everyone’s tastes with menu options including:
- Burgers with flavors like the Mo' Peach Bourbon Burger and Show-Me Bacon Jam Burger
- Philly cheesesteaks
- Chicken and waffles
- Shrimp and fish baskets, including Basa fish, a “cleaner” alternative to catfish
- Muddy Water, a sweet tea blend using her aunt’s recipe
- Bananaless banana pudding, inspired by her father’s recipe and made with Biscoff cookie butter
- Peach cobbler egg rolls, inspired by her mother and made in-house by her sister, topped with cinnamon and brown sugar
Although the son that led the Burgess family to Missouri City has since moved out of the state, they continue to build ties with the community. Michael said the restaurant seeks to create a home environment where everyone feels “like they belong.”
“We want to stay open a long time,” Angela Burgess said. “We want to grow, thrive and be the heartbeat of Missouri City.”
