Janie’s Bar in Spring is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary Sept. 24.

Located at 19620 Kuykendahl Road, the bar and eatery was one of the first liquor bars to open in the Spring and Klein area, according to owner Janie Parker.

“I’ve really enjoyed the business, and I really enjoy my customers,” Parker said. “They’re all really good people, and I want to thank them for supporting me all these years.”

Despite some early pushback from the community when first opening, Parker said Janie’s Bar quickly became a popular spot in the area.

“I bartended in this area for many, many years, so I had a really good customer base,” Parker said. “It was just lucky for me right from the start, but it’s not been easy. It’s been a lot of work.”

According to Parker, the business regularly gives back to the community though donations to various charities and hosts an annual chili cook-off, and proceeds benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

“[The chili cook-off] has been really successful,” she said. “We’ve raised a lot of money.”

Parker said the cook-off is held every year, but the date is subject to change.

“We usually do [the cook-off] in October, but it can fall anywhere between October and May,” she said.

Parker said patrons interested in competing in the cook-off can contact the bar at 281-350-1700 or check for updates on the business’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/janiesbar1.
