Harris County Flood Control District Executive Director Tina Petersen announced her formal resignation minutes after Harris County commissioners approved a new plan in partnership with the district and the Texas General Land Office to complete $322 million in disaster recovery and flood mitigation projects by February 2027.
The breakdown
Petersen presented a new framework for completing 11 disaster recovery projects within the original GLO deadlines after commissioners expressed concerns over meeting federal deadlines at the April and May meetings.
"We are making progress, we are delivering projects, and this work is keeping our community safe from flooding," Petersen said during the June 11 meeting. "We are asking today for approval of this plan because failure is not an option. It requires a full court press, and the team is here with me today to demonstrate the commitment to get this work done."
