The Central Harris County Regional Water Authority, which oversees 11 Harris County municipal utility districts and treats more than 1,700 million gallons of groundwater per year in north Houston, received an $8 million funding boost from the Texas Water Development Board in July that will be used for water system improvements.
The framework
The financial assistance will help water districts with costs related to the acquisition, design and construction of a water project, according to a July 24 TWDB news release.
Improvements will be made for the expansion of CHCRWA’s internal water distribution system, including two master meter stations and several 8-to-24-inch diameter transmission lines that will deliver the treated surface water to member district water plants.
The cost
Funding was approved by the TWDB on July 24 from the State Water Implementation Fund Program for Texas, or SWIFT program. The TWDB has committed more than $30.4 billion in financial assistance to Texas communities since 1957, according to its website.
