July 16-31: See a play

Attend the play “Something Rotten” directed by Sammy Green at Playhouse 1960. Set in the 1590s, the story revolves around two brothers trying to write a hit play as they compete against a rival playwright’s legacy. July 22-Aug. 14: Solve a mystery

Try to crack the case of “The Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie as it is performed by Stageworks Theatre. The play details the mystery of Monkswell Manor as its guests attempt to figure out which one of them is a murderer—and each one is a suspect. July 24: Build a backpack

Create an embroidered cloth backpack out of an old T-shirt during this class taught by Cupcake Quilts instructor Gypsy Hargrove. Attendees of this beginner-level course must own their own embroidery and sewing machine. The purchase price includes instructions, an embroidery design, a fabric kit and stabilizers. July 29-30: Chuckle all night

Laugh the evening away at comedian J. Anthony Brown’s standup show hosted for two nights at Komedy Lounge. July 30: Search for squirrels

Hosted at the Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve, this event—dubbed “Hiding Nuts: The Life and Times of Squirrels”—will teach attendees about squirrels and their habitats. Aug. 4: Party at an indoor beach

Enjoy a tropical celebration at the Barbara Bush Library’s End of Summer Beach Party. Aug. 11: Listen to weather experts

Prepare for possible weather emergencies by listening to Matt Lanza of Space City Weather speak about the forecast for this year’s hurricane season at the Peak Hurricane Season & Flooding Outlook event hosted by the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce. Aug. 12-13: Learn about love

Attend the Love Wins conference hosted by pastor Juan and Ruthy Martinez of Get Wrapped Church and learn more about relationships. On Aug. 12, married and engaged couples are invited to celebrate a prom night with dinner, dancing and a speaker.
