The new Klein ISD calendar for the 2026-27 school year—which closely mirrors the current 2025-26 calendar—was unanimously selected by the district’s board of trustees during its Nov. 10 meeting.

In a nutshell

Trustees selected Option A for the 2026-27 school year, which will begin Aug. 12, 2026, and end May 28, 2027, according to Nov. 10 meeting documents. Commonalities between the new and current calendars include:
  • Five-day fall, Thanksgiving and spring breaks for staff and students in October, November and March, respectively
  • 12-day winter breaks for students and 10-day winter breaks for teachers in late December-early January
  • Five-day mid-winter breaks for students and two-day mid-winter breaks in February
  • First day of school on the second Wednesday in August
  • Last day of school May 28
How it happened

KISD leaders proposed three calendar options for employees, parents and students in sixth through 11th grades to vote on from Oct. 21-27 before trustees considered the calendars. Of 6,990 participants, 73.1% of respondents selected Option A.

Surveys were available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese, according to meeting documents.

The details

Two other calendar options were created for survey participants to consider, with 12.4% of respondents favoring Option B and 14.4% of respondents favoring Option C, according to meeting documents. The biggest differences between these two calendars and the current calendar include:
  • Option B lacked a five-day fall break for students and staff in October.
  • Option B placed the last day of school on May 20, 2027.
  • Option B scheduled spring break for the second week of March instead of the third week.
  • Option C rearranged staff work days throughout the year, compared to the current calendar.
