The $89.9 million Guaranteed Maximum Price package is expected to cover construction of the actual building. Work on the project—which broke ground in May—has largely consisted of site development and parking lot paving so far, Chief of District Operations Mark Miranda said during an Aug. 12 meeting.
SISD’s EPIC is expected to be completed by the 2026-27 school year, as previously reported by Community Impact. The 148,000-square-foot center will include features such as:
- A 4,000-seat indoor arena—with an optional 1,000 additional seats in on-court seating—to host athletic events or ceremonies such as graduation
- A 1,000-seat performance hall
- A 49,500-square-foot detached multipurpose pavilion to host livestock shows, robotics events and band practices
- A 250-seat academic and recital hall to host University Interscholastic League competitions
- An art gallery to display student works
- A kitchen and concessions space to host culinary arts students and provide event catering support
- A lobby with dual staircases to host choir recitals
- A multipurpose room to host teaching or conferences
- Offices, locker rooms, a mother’s room and storage rooms
The package approved Aug. 12 was the third—and likely final—guaranteed maximum price for the center, Miranda said.
The EPIC is estimated to cost $141 million, with funding coming from SISD’s $850 million bond package voters approved in 2022.
