Klein ISD teachers will receive raises ranging from $1,400-$5,000 as well as one-time retention incentives for the 2025-26 school year, which begins Aug. 4 for employees.

What you need to know

During a June 24 meeting, Klein ISD’s board of trustees unanimously approved the employee raise package.

“Our people are the heart of KISD,” board President Rob Ellis said via a letter sent to KISD employees that KISD provided to Community Impact. “The board is honored to show our support and appreciation for our outstanding Klein employees by approving a competitive compensation package.”

According to the KISD letter, the annual raises will be:
  • $1,400, or 2.25%, for teachers with one to two years of experience
  • $2,500, or 3.9%, for teachers with three to four years of experience
  • $5,000, or 6.2%-7.7%, for teachers with five or more years of experience
  • 2% of the 2024-25 pay grade “control point” for all other full-time, Teacher Retirement System-eligible employees
Additionally, one-time retention bonuses for employees will be:
  • $800 for all hourly staff: half of the bonus will be paid in the fall semester and the other half in the spring
  • $400 for full-time, TRS-eligible teachers; for non-full-time, TRS-eligible employees; and for campus-based, non-hourly staff: bonus paid during the fall semester
  • $200 for non-full-time, TRS-eligible teachers; and for campus-based, non-full-time and non-hourly staff who are TRS eligible: bonus paid during the fall semester
Some context

Texas’ nearly 9,000 public schools will see an $8.5 billion funding boost over the next two years after Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 2 into law June 4, as previously reported by Community Impact. Nearly half of that funding will be spent on raises for educators and support staff, such as bus drivers, janitors and librarians.

KISD is expected to receive about $29.4 million in additional funding for HB 2, KISD Chief Financial Officer Dan Schaeffer said during KISD trustees’ June 9 meeting. About $17.3 million of the funding, or 59%, is earmarked for non-administrator employee raises under the bill’s requirements, he added.

KISD trustees also unanimously approved the fiscal year 2025-26 budget June 24. Total expenses in the FY 2025-26 budget are about 4% higher than in the FY 2024-25 budget, according to June 24 meeting documents.

A request for the full FY 2025-26 budget documents was pending with KISD as of press time June 25.
