The overview
Trustee Chris Todd resigned, effective May 31, after deciding to move to Florida. Todd said he was not planning to leave in the middle of his term, but he will be taking a new job opportunity at a church, and it is the right decision for his family and him.
“It is exceptionally hard to leave the community that ... I've spent basically my entire life in,” Todd said. “This is a super special community, and I hope that this board will realize and remember that the work that you're doing really does make a difference for this community.”
Todd was first elected to the board in 2018, as previously reported by Community Impact.
“[He’s] really been a tremendous blessing to this district for many years, and [he] has been a pillar of support for teachers, for students, and we've been blessed by [his] service,” board President Rob Ellis said.
What’s next
Todd’s position will be filled by former trustee Georgan Reitmeier after the board unanimously approved her—with Todd abstaining from the vote—as his temporary replacement on May 19. She will begin in the position on June 1, and an election for the remaining time in the seat—two years—will be held in November, Ellis said.
Reitmeier retired in 2023 after serving on the board for 18 years, according to a news release from KISD.
“Prior practice of the board in these situations [has been nominating] prior board members, which has two real benefits,” Ellis said. “One is the prior board member already has taken all the legally required orientations and trainings ... and also it has the benefit of someone who has won an election and has been supported by the community for this position.”
