Spring ISD’s board of trustees have named an interim superintendent in the wake of Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa’s retirement, according to a May 14 news release from the district.

What’s happening?

Kregg Cuellar, SISD’s chief of academics and school leadership, will serve as interim superintendent after Hinojosa’s last day in the position, June 1, according to the release. Hinojosa will stay with the district to assist during the transition period until her contact ends June 30. She announced her departure during the April 8 board of trustees meeting.

“We are grateful for ... Hinojosa’s unwavering dedication to our students, families and staff over the years,” SISD board of trustees President Justine Durant said in a statement “As we look to the future, we are confident that ... Cuellar will provide strong leadership during this important period of transition.”

Cuellar has more than 20 years of public education experience, including past jobs as:Cuellar has served in his current SISD position for the last three years, according to the release.

“I am deeply honored to step into this role and continue the important work of serving our students, families, and staff,” Cuellar said in a statement.

Get involved

SISD is also beginning its nationwide search for the next superintendent, according to the release. As part of the search, the district will be hosting town hall meetings to collect input from the community. The meetings will take place on:
  • May 17, 9-11 a.m.
  • May 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Both town halls will be held at the Gordon M. Anderson Leadership Center Boardroom, which is located at 16717 Ella Blvd., Houston.
