The overview
About $28.5 million in renovations were recently debuted at Hildebrandt Intermediate School, Chief Operations Officer August Wunderlich said via an April 3 email. Construction on the project began in June 2023, and upgrades include:
- New and redesigned classrooms, including a dedicated art room
- Added windows for classrooms
- Renovations for the campus’s clinic
- Security improvements to electronic door access systems, campus-wide security monitoring infrastructure and interior doors
- A secure atrium space
- A new grand staircase
- Added bottle fillers for existing water fountains
- Updated gym flooring
“As we celebrate the renovation and modernization of Hildebrandt Intermediate, we recognize the profound impact these upgrades have had on our students' experience,” Principal Kimi Williams said in the release. “The addition of natural light, enhanced safety features and collaborative spaces has created an environment where students can thrive—today and in the future.”

Three other projects funded by the May 2022 bond are slated to begin soon, Wunderlich said.
1. A new gym will be added to Schindewolf Intermediate School. The gym will include features such as bleachers and climate control.

2. Video surveillance upgrades will be made across the district, replacing existing security cameras and cables. Work is also expected to include improved electrical service and possible space remodels.

Some context
KISD’s May 2022 bond consisted of two approved propositions, as previously reported by Community Impact.
Proposition A allocated $843.84 million to improve safety and security; address growth and capacity challenges; modernize aging schools; renovate all schools; and upgrade academic, arts and physical education/athletic spaces.
Also approved by voters in May 2022, Proposition B allocated $51.5 million toward classroom technology for students and staff.
