The League of United Latin American Citizens Education Council 402, a Hispanic civil rights nonprofit, named Spring ISD Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa the Distinguished Superintendent of the Year for 2024.

According to a news release from the school district, this was the organization’s inaugural award, established to “honor leaders who exemplify a dedication to educational excellence, inclusivity and advocacy.”

How we got here

In January 2022, Hinojosa was named the first female superintendent of SISD—a district with a predominantly Hispanic student population. While her education career began as a teacher in Houston ISD, Hinojosa has worked for SISD since 2014, Community Impact previously reported.

Prior to her role as superintendent, Hinojosa served as SISD's chief academic officer and chief of innovation and equity. She holds a doctorate of education and a master’s degree from the University of Houston.

Officials said Hinojosa has led the district’s efforts in advancing equity, enhancing academic opportunities and fostering an inclusive environment.
