Spring ISD has purchased a 185.2-acre plot of land this week for $20.2 million to build a new Spring High School, according to a March 7 news release.

What you need to know

Located near the intersection of the Hardy Toll Road and Riley Fuzzel Road, the new site lies about 3 miles from the current Spring High School location at 19428 I-45, Spring, according to the release. The Spring High School revamp—which is currently being designed and is scheduled to break ground in spring 2025—is part of SISD’s $850 million bond approved by voters in 2022.

District leaders debated whether to renovate Spring High School at its current location but ultimately opted not to due to “increased costs, disruptions to instruction during demolition and construction, and limitations on design due to a smaller site,” the release reads.

“I am confident that this new campus will equip our students with a premier learning experience and the tools to excel in every area of their education,” Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa said in a statement.

Quote of note

“The district engaged in several studies of the new property, and we determined that the new 185-acre site is extremely suitable for our needs and encompasses the accessibility, feasibility and construction parameters we look for when selecting a school site,” Chief of District Operations Mark Miranda said in a statement.

The background

As previously reported by Community Impact, SISD trustees approved a construction manager for the Spring High School remodel Jan. 9 and the architects for the project in August. Spring High School was constructed in 1968 and is the district's oldest high school.
