After assessing more than 50 applicants, Spring ISD leaders have named the district’s new director of athletics, according to a Dec. 15 SISD news release.

Two-minute impact

Darrell Oliver—who served as interim athletic director for SISD—brings 20 years of coaching experience to the role, including serving 2.5 years as assistant director for SISD.

“While a national search yielded dozens of qualified candidates, Coach Oliver was the clear choice to lead our athletic programs and build on the foundation of excellence,” SISD Superintendent Lupita Hinojosa said via the news release.

The details

According to the release, before coming to SISD, Oliver:
  • Began working at Richardson Junior High School as ninth-grade coordinator and head football coach in 2004
  • Worked as athletic director, assistant principal, head football coach, head track and cross country coach, head golf coach and assistant head baseball coach at Richardson
“I am so excited to take on this role: not only in leading a phenomenal coaching and athletic staff, but in gaining the opportunity to positively impact students and families,” Oliver said in the release. “Our athletic programs have a direct impact on developing successful young men and women, and I am so fortunate to be in a position to help lead that work.”
