Spring ISD will be launching a new esports management program in the 2024-25 school year thanks to a $178,398 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, according to an Oct. 4 news release from the district.

In a nutshell

Annually, 128 students will be able to enroll in SISD’s new esports management program, which will be offered at Westfield High, according to the news release.

According to the release, the program will:
  • Teach students esports game design and development, business management, and event planning skills through “hands-on experiences”
  • Fall under the district’s career and technical education, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs
  • Allow students to earn an associate of applied science degree, and business operations and esports management certificates through Lone Star College-Houston North
What they’re saying

“We have a longstanding tradition of excellence with our STEM and CTE pathways here in SISD, and these grant funds will help us expand these programs and opportunities to even more students,” said Matthew Pariseau, SISD’s chief of innovation and student success, via the release.

How we got here

SISD was one of 42 entities across Texas to receive the grant from TWC as part of the commission’s Jobs and Education for Texans program, according to SISD’s release. The grant is funded by moneys from the Texas Legislature.
