Lone Star College-University Park officials announced the appointment of Steven Kahla as the college's new vice president of instruction via a news release March 27.

According to the release, Kahla assumed the new role April 1 after serving in an interim capacity for the past 3.5 months. Kahla replaces Kathy Cecil-Sanchez, who retired in December.

“I am honored and humbled to be promoted to the position of vice president of instruction, and I am excited to continue serving our students and faculty in this new capacity,” Kahla said in a statement. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to advance our mission of providing excellent educational opportunities for all.”

According to the release, Kahla was selected as a finalist for the position by a seven-member search committee as part of a national search. Kahla holds a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Abilene Christian University, a Masters in Business administration degree from Auburn University and a doctorate degree in higher education leadership from Capella University.

In his new role, Kahla will be tasked with overseeing the academic programs, faculty and student services related to instruction, including curriculum development; faculty recruitment, development and evaluation; and duties related to LSC-UP's continuing assessment, accreditation and strategic processes.
