In response to an increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in the Greater Houston area, Klein ISD has rescheduled its in-person graduation ceremonies and shifted from hosting in-person proms to drive-and-go proms, the district announced June 25.
According to the announcement, while KISD had originally planned to host all five of its graduation ceremonies in one day at NRG Stadium, due to additional facility cleaning and sanitation requirements, the district will no longer be able to do so. Instead, graduation ceremonies for each of the district's five high schools will be held over the course of two days in accordance with the following schedule:
- Klein High School: July 28 at 2:30 p.m.
- Klein Forest High School: July 28 at 6:30 p.m.
- Klein Cain High School: Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m.
- Klein Oak High School: Aug. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
- Klein Collins High School: Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m.
As a backup plan, in the event NRG Stadium is unable to accommodate the aforementioned schedule, the district will host outdoor graduation ceremonies at Klein Memorial Stadium on July 28 and Aug. 1.
"Graduates, we are so sorry that COVID-19 continues to present challenges for these very important milestones in your life, but we remain dedicated to celebrating you as the class of 2020 in the best way that we can," Superintendent Jenny McGown said in a video statement. "We're so proud of you and we hope to see you all soon."
