Texas Roadhouse breaks ground on new Cypress location

American steakhouse chain Texas Roadhouse is set to bring its menu once again to the Cypress area as construction has started on a new location on West Road.

According to business officials, construction is underway on the new location near the northeast corner of the Grand Parkway at West Road. The project was initially delayed from its original construction start in early 2025 but is now on track to open in 2026.

The restaurant chain is known for its ribs, steaks, burgers, fried chicken and homemade sides with more than 700 branches worldwide.

IAH and Hobby airports roll out CLEAR ‘eGates’ technology for faster airport security

Airport passengers in the Greater Houston area who are also CLEAR members can utilize new biometric eGates aimed at expediting identity verification at both George Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports.

While the security identity company CLEAR first announced the national airport partnership program rollout with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration on Aug. 19, Houston Airport officials announced in December that the biometric security gates are now in use.


“The eGates are designed to give CLEAR+ members a more seamless and predictable travel experience,” a Dec. 9 news release states. “With this new technology, travelers can verify their identity in under five seconds, bypassing the TSA podium and proceeding directly to physical screening.”

P. Terry’s set to open in Webster

Austin-based burger joint P. Terry’s is coming to the Baybrook East shopping center, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.


Construction for the project will begin in February and is expected to be completed by late August, according to the filing. The official opening date has not yet been made available as of press time.

The restaurant offers a menu of 100% black angus beef burgers, fresh cut fries, hand-spun milkshakes and homemade baked goods, per its website.

Lone Star College’s Academy for Lifelong Learning opens spring registration for adults 50-plus


Area residents ages 50 and older can explore everything from history and creative writing to hands-on hobbies through Lone Star College System’s Academy for Lifelong Learning, a low-cost program offering classes, activities and social connections across the system’s campuses, as stated in a Lone Star College Dec. 19 news release.

"I have enjoyed the ALL courses tremendously, especially those that I have been able to attend remotely. I enjoy meeting other people and sharing ideas as well as learning new things,” LSC-Montgomery ALL member Frank Imburgio said.

Annual memberships, Sept. 1-Aug. 31, cost $25 per person and provide access to programming across Lone Star College System campuses, the release states.

6 transportation projects that could impact commutes across the Greater Houston area

Six major transportation projects are upcoming, underway and recently completed across the Greater Houston area. This list is not comprehensive and details are subject to change.

Upcoming projects:
  • Mykawa Road widening, with construction expected on approximately 3 miles of a four-lane divided boulevard
  • Lake Woodlands Drive at Gosling Road intersection improvements, which includes extending several turn lanes
  • Nelson Way extension and bridge construction to connect Pin Oak Road and FM 1463 in Katy
Ongoing projects:
  • Mills Branch Drive asphalt overlay project in Kingwood, expected to wrap up by Jan. 17
  • Spring Cypress Road and Louetta Road asphalt rehabilitation, with expected completion in March

  • Valley Ranch Bend Drive, a new roadway open in New Caney
