After two decades in the oil and gas industry, Ashley Paris-Alderson said she decided it was time to ignite a new kind of spark. In December, she founded Mixology Candle Bar, a business built on creativity, connection and community with the mission to be the light for others, one candle at a time.

“We were at a church candlelight service, and the pastor was talking about spreading light, love and kindness, and being the light. And I told my husband at that point, we're doing this,” Alderson said.

What's special about it?

During the process of creating her business, Alderson said everything came into place with very small hiccups.

“It was like God's divine plan, it all fell into place so seamlessly,” Alderson said. “And it was a huge identity adjustment, but this has been absolutely wonderful. I love every second. The best part is just bringing all the community together.”

Through her business, Alderson said she brings people together through the joy of making candles with events such as team-building corporate events, parties and vendor market events.

“At Mixology Candle Bar, we strive to create a lasting experience, so people can come in and craft their own unique scented candle,” Alderson said.

How it works

Guests can book a class online with an experience fee starting at $25 and select a candle size ranging from 8 to 20 oz. for $7.50-$27.50.

In addition to its standard services, Mixology Candle Bar offers mobile team-building services, and it holds private events where groups of 12 or more can reserve the space free of charge.

Utilizing soy blends and cotton wick, Mixology Candle Bar offers over 50 candle scents and 40 vessel options. At its in-store bar, customers can smell the fragrance oil of each scent or a candle and select three or four scents to mix with staff guidance.

During the holidays, guests can expect new holiday scents and holiday-themed vessels as well as flights or mini-candles ideal for gift giving, Alderson said.

After a year of operating Mixology Candle Bar, Alderson said she hopes to expand the business with more locations within the next year.
