Roughly six months after work started, Texas Department of Transportation officials said they are making progress on replacing Green Tee Bridge along Country Club Drive in Pearland.

Community Impact previously reported the project was anticipated to begin in January. However, work started in March, TxDOT Public Information Officer Danny Perez said in a Sept. 26 email.

The project is expected to take a total of a year to complete, with Perez saying the agency expects it to be done in the spring. The timeline has the agency “slightly ahead of schedule,” he said.

Green Tee Bridge was aging and replacing it became necessary to allow for future expansion, Perez said. The work, which consists of replacing the old bridge and paving on the road approaching the bridge, is higher and wider than the original.

“We are working with the contractor to get the bridge opened as soon as possible,” Perez said in the email. “We are pleased with [the contractor’s] progress and are hopeful that we will be able to deliver some good news to the community sooner than later.”

What else?

One of the challenges with the project included having to redesign the traffic control plan, which included a temporary signal at the alternate route to improve traffic flow, Perez said. That alternate route included a detour through a subdivision as the bridge was completely closed.

The project in total cost $3.17 million, according to documents from TxDOT. The breakdown includes:
  • $2.2M from the federal government
  • $0.37M from TxDOT
  • $0.53M from the city of Pearland

The bridge being up to current design standards will help prepare for the upcoming $18 million Clear Creek Flood Management Project from the Harris County Flood Control District, Perez said.
