May 3 marks the last day to cast a ballot for a number of local races in Brazoria County.

Here’s what voters need to know about election day May 3.

What readers need to know

Voters interested in casting ballots for a number of school board, city council and countywide measures in Brazoria County can do so at 20 different locations, according to the county’s website. A map of those locations is included below:



The county is part of the state’s countywide polling place program, meaning voters can cast their ballot at any polling location in the county, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., according to the county’s website.

Diving in deeper

More than 8,100 people have either mailed in their ballots or cast their ballots early in Brazoria County, according to the county’s voter turnout numbers.


Early voting for the May 3 election ran from April 22-29, Community Impact previously reported.

The two busiest days for the polls were on the final two days of that window—April 28 and 29—according to the data. On April 29, nearly 2,000 people cast their ballots.


What’s on the ballot

While voters can cast their ballots at any polling place they want within Brazoria County, each individual ballot only includes races relevant to where the voter lives, such as what city or school district they reside in.


For school districts, Alvin and Pearland ISDs will each have a pair of competitive races on the ballot, Community Impact previously reported. Pearland ISD has three total races, one of which is not competitive.

The city of Manvel has two City Council positions on the ballot, both of which are competitive, according to the city’s website.

While technically in Galveston County, Friendswood residents will also have a competitive race on the ballot for City Council. One other race will be on the ballot as well, but it is uncompetitive, according to the city’s website.

Those residents will cast their ballots in Galveston County.

Also on the ballot is a county measure for a 1.5% local sales tax in Brazoria County Emergency Services District No. 3, according to sample ballot information.

What else?


To vote in person, voters must present one form of photo identification, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website. Acceptable forms include:
  • Texas driver’s license
  • Texas election identification certificate
  • Texas personal identification card
  • Texas handgun license
  • U.S. Military identification card with a photo
  • U.S. citizenship certificate with a photo
  • U.S. Passport
