The new features were discussed at AISD’s safety committee meeting March 6.
The overview
The page, which differs from the district’s home website, has some of the following features:
- Standard response protocol, which is designed to “provide consistent, clear, shared language and actions among all students, staff and first responders,” in the event of an emergency, according to the district’s website.
- Standard reunification method, which is a process to help parents pick up students in a formalized, controlled release for circumstances such as weather, power outages, hazmat issues or if a crisis occurs at the school.
- Mental health resources, such as counseling support services
- AISD’s “Let’s Chat” category, which is an online tool that takes questions, thoughts or concerns and sends them directly to the appropriate staff members for follow-up. The district noted this tool can be used for parents or students that may see or hear anything suspicious or of concerning nature.
The district’s new page also allows users to access information about AISD’s police department, safety and security videos, gun safety and weapon detection, among other categories.
Davon Ruiz, AISD’s director of safety and security, said at the meeting the district is planning on adding more safety videos to the page and updating its SRP video in the near future.
