What’s happening?
There is no timeline as to how long the students will be at this location, which is at 1910 Rosharon Road, Alvin, AISD Assistant Director of Communications Rachel Moore said in an Jan. 7 email.
To recover the building’s infrastructure, insurance adjusters are currently assessing the damage. Moore said there is no timeline as to when the assessment will be complete.
What else?
Supply drives by the AISD Education Foundation and Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole took place shortly after the tornado occurred, with both providing a large amount of books and supplies for students and teachers, according to social media posts from the AISD Education Foundation.
Moore said other notable donations include Houston news station ABC 13 and its parent company Disney, which gifted teachers $50,000 in credits through DonorsChoose, a nonprofit organization that donates to public schools.
Walt Disney Elementary will also be receiving a $25,000 gift through its partnership with First Book, a nonprofit distributor that provides access to books. This donation will help replenish the library with new books and educational resources, Moore said.
Quote of note
District officials said they are grateful to the community for their help.
“We sincerely appreciate the support and understanding our community has shown during this difficult time,” Moore said. “To the parents, faculty and staff at Walt Disney Elementary, thank you for your patience and dedication as we adjust to our new campus. Your support means so much as we work through this transition together.”
