Along with the reimbursement resolution, trustees also approved the bond order, which officially issued the $380.1 million in bonds that voters approved in November. However, it typically takes a few months for the district to receive funding from the bond, district documents note.
The reimbursement resolution allows the board to authorize officials with the district to proceed with bond projects with current district funds and use funds from the bond later for reimbursement, according to district documents.
The first project AISD officials are looking to begin from the 2024 bond package is upgrading security vestibules at two high schools, six junior high schools and 15 elementary schools, AISD’s Executive Director of Communications Renae Rives said.
What else?
Officials did not clarify in agenda documents how much the expended funds could be. However, the security vestibule project for the 23 campuses is expected to cost $10 million, according to district documents. It’s not clear how much of that $10 million the district will need ahead of the bond funds coming in.
The security vestibule project will also potentially occur in three phases over summers 2025-27 in order to prevent disruptions during the academic school year, Community Impact previously reported.
This project will take up the bulk of AISD’s safety and security portion of the bond, which totals $14.1 million.
AISD is also looking to upgrade security monitoring equipment district-wide for $2 million. Officials will also install backup generators at Passmore Elementary, Alvin Junior High, Hood-Case Elementary and the support services facility. This will cost $2.1 million, according to district documents.
