With all precincts reporting, Trent Perez has won the runoff election for Pearland City Council Position 6, according to unofficial results. Perez garnered 1,324 votes, or 55.8 percent, to defeat Monica Russo, who received 1,050 tallies, or 44.2 percent. "I want to thank all the people who helped me that are too numerous to name," Perez said. "But especially I want to thank my wife, whose support I could not have done this without." Pearland decided in 2014 to add a sixth council member and will add another seat in May 2017. About 3.7 percent of the nearly 65,000 registered voters in the city participated in the runoff election, according to the Brazoria County Clerk's office. "I'd really love to see voter participation increase," Perez said. "I'd like to talk to my fellow council members when I have the opportunity about programs that the city of Pearland can do to increase that turnout because we certainly want more engagement from our citizens." Perez, a civil engineer and business owner, ran for City Council in 2015. "I want to focus primarily on repairing our infrastructure, fixing the flooding problems and helping [Shadow Creek Ranch] with the odor issue they've been suffering with for some time," he said. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
