The Pearland Chamber of Commerce received a five-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, making it one of around 30 in the state of Texas to receive such a distinction.

Chamber President Jim Johnson announced the news at a chamber luncheon on Nov. 14, almost a couple hours after the accreditation was made final.

It is the first time the chamber has received five-star accreditation, and the first time it’s been accredited in any capacity since 2016, Johnson said.

Texas has over 500 chambers of commerce throughout the state, with around 40 throughout the state having some type of accreditation, according to the U.S. Chamber’s website. In the Greater Houston area, there are eight other chambers with accreditation.


Five stars is the highest level of accreditation a chamber can receive, according to the U.S. Chamber’s website.

To receive accreditation, a chamber has to apply, according to the U.S. Chamber’s website. The review of a chamber involves looking at the structure, staff, finances, programs and partnerships, among other categories.

Put into perspective

Texas is the state with the most chambers accredited in some capacity, according to the U.S. Chamber’s website. Georgia is second with 14.

There are roughly 7,000 chambers across the country, of which 194 are accredited, according to the U.S. Chamber’s website.
