The two projects total about $3.8 million, according to city documents, and include intersection work along two separate roads in town.
The gist
The pair of projects was approved at City Council’s Sept. 8 meeting. The first project, which is estimated at $3.25 million, will involve traffic signal improvements at four intersections along Sunset Drive, according to city documents.
Intersections that will have existing signals rehabilitated include:
- West Castlewood Avenue
- Falling Leaf Drive
- Cowards Creek Drive
The second, totaling an estimated $550,000, will include intersection improvements at FM 518 and FM 528, according to city documents. Specifically, the project will include installing dedicated right-turn lanes for traffic on the east and west sides of FM 528 at the intersection of FM 518.
The cost
Through its Transportation Policy Council, the Houston-Galveston Area Council has provided the city with a surface transportation block grant, which the city will match to cover the cost of the projects.
However, no city funds will be used for the match, according to city documents. Instead, the city will use transportation development credits, courtesy of TxDOT.
Officials did not specify the breakdown of how much the grant will be and how much in transportation development credits will be needed.
Looking ahead
The timeline for each of these projects will depend “on several factors,” Director of Communications Glenda Faulkner said in a Sept. 18 email.
Officials are looking to bid out the projects within the next year, and construction could start potentially in early 2027, Faulkner said.
