Pearland is planning major investments in expanding and repairing its 617 miles of sidewalk.

How we got here

Sidewalks have long been on the radar of city planners, and in May 2023, Pearland voters approved a $181.4 million bond project, which included $26.1 million for street, bridge and sidewalk improvements, Community Impact previously reported.

In February 2024, Mayor Kevin Cole requested that Pearland City Council discuss the city’s progress on sidewalk and street maintenance and create a plan to address the city’s aging roads.

What’s next?

The city is now considering passing a proposed fiscal year 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Plan that includes more than $15 million dedicated to addressing concrete sidewalk gaps and replacements. The plan allocates $4.4 million in 2026 to close missing segments and replace deteriorated sidewalks throughout the city, including neighborhoods.

This project will primarily replace concrete sidewalks in older sections of the city and analyze connectivity to adjacent subdivisions and commercial areas, according to city documents.

This will also enable the sidewalk repair program to maximize resources and focus on locations manageable within the current repair program, while allowing a comprehensive project to concentrate on more severely aged and damaged sections of the sidewalk network, according to city documents.
