Pearland city planners have updated the city’s Clear Creek Trail project to build a trail network along the watershed with three new trailheads and a pedestrian bridge.

What you need to know

Pearland City Council voted unanimously at its June 9 meeting to approve design revisions to the Clear Creek Trail project.

The Houston-based Gauge Engineering is carrying out the project, which will now have three new trailheads and a bridge. These additions will increase the project’s cost by $240,000 to $963,000, according to agenda documents.

The new trailheads begin at the following locations:
  • University of Houston Clear Lake Pearland campus
  • Pearland Parkway at Clear Creek
  • Briarsage Lane cul-de-sac
The pedestrian bridge will cross Clear Creek from Harris County to Brazoria County, near Town Ditch, according to agenda documents.

How we got here

Pearland City Council initially awarded the Clear Creek Trail Project to Gauge Engineering in 2020, intending to design and construct it concurrently with the Harris County Flood Control District’s Clear Creek Federal project, according to agenda documents.

However, HCFCD's delivery of the Clear Creek widening project was impacted by design phase challenges, approvals from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and project costs, consequently delaying the trail project in its efforts to move forward.

As a result, the original trail alignment was modified to allow the trail to be designed and constructed independently of the Clear Creek Federal project.

Next steps

Gauge Engineering expects to have the project’s design phase completed by May 2026, according to agenda documents.
