Alvin ISD trustees approved a flat budget for fiscal year 2026-27 at their June 9 board meeting.
“The unrelenting budgeting priority in Alvin ISD has been classrooms, students and teachers,” AISD Chief Financial Officer Daniel Combs said at the meeting.
What’s happening?
Trustees approved nearly $381.4 million in expenses and around $391.4 million in revenue for FY 2026-27, budget documents show.
For FY 2025-26, the district had $391.4 million in both revenue and expenses, as previously reported by Community Impact.
According to budget documents, revenues exceed expenses by around $10 million, though Combs described the FY 2026-27 budget as flat.
The budget also includes a $10 million transfer out of the general fund tied to the district’s tax increment reinvestment zone, or TIRZ, arrangement, as well as a $3 million transfer in from property insurance-related funds, budget documents show.
Additionally, the board previously approved a budget amendment May 12 that included a 3% cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, for employees in FY 2026-27, which was incorporated into the adopted budget.
What residents need to know
AISD is also projecting a tax rate of $1.1353 for FY 2026-27. This tax rate combines $0.7405 for maintenance and operations, or M&O, which pays for daily operations, and $0.3948 for interest and sinking, or I&S, which pays bond debt, according to budget documents.
Based on that rate, a homeowner with a median homestead taxable value of $234,183 would have an estimated annual property tax bill of about $2,670, according to budget documents.
Also of note
Combs said enrollment and average daily attendance remain the district's largest drivers of revenue. While enrollment growth has slowed, the district continues to grow in line with projections and expects to see a revenue increase, Combs said.
What’s next?
The district's projected tax rate may be updated once final certified property values are received by July 25, with trustees scheduled to adopt the tax rate at their September board meeting, according to district documents.
