Approved by the board of trustees during the Dec. 9 meeting, the agreements formalize a five-year partnership with each university, according to district documents.
University students will gain classroom experience through:
- Observing certified district teachers
- Observing lessons
- Assisting with instruction
- Completing demonstration teaching hours
The partnerships come at no cost to the district, and PISD retains authority over student placements and program oversight, according to district documents.

The agreements take effect Jan. 1, according to district documents.
District staff and school principals will coordinate placements and assign mentor teachers for university students in P-12 classrooms.
