Pearland ISD has approved new partnerships with Walden University and Houston Christian University, giving students the opportunity to complete field experience at district schools beginning in 2026.

The details

Approved by the board of trustees during the Dec. 9 meeting, the agreements formalize a five-year partnership with each university, according to district documents.

University students will gain classroom experience through:
  • Observing certified district teachers
  • Observing lessons
  • Assisting with instruction
  • Completing demonstration teaching hours
The district will assign qualified mentor teachers to evaluate university students throughout their field experience. Students are responsible for following district policies, classroom rules and professional standards.

The partnerships come at no cost to the district, and PISD retains authority over student placements and program oversight, according to district documents.

What’s next?

The agreements take effect Jan. 1, according to district documents.

District staff and school principals will coordinate placements and assign mentor teachers for university students in P-12 classrooms.
