New updates—including project timelines for the Walt Disney Elementary and Stevenson Primary replacement campus—were presented to Alvin ISD’s board of trustees at its Sept. 9 meeting.

All projects presented are part of the district’s $380.1 million bond that passed last November, Community Impact previously reported. The bond package is meant to address growing enrollment and security needs throughout the district, officials said.

The update

The bond package consists of the following projects:
  • Two new elementary schools
  • One new junior high school
  • One replacement campus to replace Stevenson Primary and Disney Elementary
  • Renovations and additions to Alvin and Manvel High schools
  • A safety and security package
  • Land acquisition
Relating to the bond, the district took on security vestibule projects and completed them at the following campuses:
  • RISE Academy
  • Alvin Junior High
  • Shirley Dill Brothers Elementary
  • Bel Nafegar Sanchez Elementary
  • Mary Burks Marek Elementary
  • Don Jeter Elementary
  • Hood-Case Elementary
  • Melba Passmore Elementary
These new vestibules will require visitors to enter a separate entryway, present a form of identification and state their reason for being at the school through a transaction window with a receptionist. Then they will be allowed to be buzzed into the front office or the school area, AISD’s Deputy Superintendent of Operations Rory Gesch said.

The timeline

As the first phase of construction on security vestibules is complete, the district is looking to complete the second phase of vestibule upgrades by summer 2026 at the following campuses:
  • Bill Hasse Elementary
  • Savannah Lakes Elementary
  • Pomona Elementary
  • Glenn York Elementary
  • Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary
  • Mark Twain Elementary
  • Dr. James Red Duke Elementary
  • Meridiana Elementary
The last phase of vestibule upgrades is slated to be completed by summer 2027 at the following campuses:
  • Fairview Junior High
  • Manvel Junior High
  • Rodeo Palms Junior High
  • Nolan Ryan Junior High
  • Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High
  • Bob and Betty Nelson Elementary
  • Shadow Creek High School
Another notable project will be the replacement campus for Walt Disney Elementary and Stevenson Primary.

Currently, students at Walt Disney Elementary are attending classes at the former Alvin Elementary site, located at 1910 Rosharon Road, after an EF2 tornado damaged Walt Disney Elementary in December, Community Impact previously reported.

The damaged school site eventually was voted to be demolished by the board in April, with plans to build the replacement campus on the demolished site.

The replacement campus’s design presentation will be presented to the board in November, with construction beginning in July 2026 and an opening in August 2028, Gesch said.
