The TEA released the scores following a nearly two-year legal battle between the state and roughly three dozen school districts that sued over the efficacy of changes the state made to the way it calculates the scores.
Alvin ISD
Alvin ISD scored an 84 out of a possible 100 points, which translates to a B, according to the TEA scores. The score means the district will retain its letter grade, which has been a B since at least the 2021-22 school year.
However, an 84 is the highest score the district has received, with previous years earning an 81 or 82, TEA data shows.
According to the TEA, the scores are broken down into three categories: student achievement, which looks at student performance on state tests and graduation rates; school progress, which tracks how students perform over time; and closing the gaps, which looks at how individual groups are performing. Those three categories are also scored on a 100-point scale.
AISD improved its score in all three categories, according to the data. Those scores are:
- 83 in student achievement, up from 81
- 83 for school progress, up from 81
- 87 for closing the gaps, up from 81
AISD has nearly 30,000 students enrolled, according to the TEA. Over 51% of the district is considered economically disadvantaged, while more than 15% are considered special education. Around 16% of the district is considered emergent bilingual English learners.
Of the district’s 37 schools, six schools scored a C, with the rest scoring an A or a B. Schools that scored a C include:
- Bill Hasse Elementary
- Iowa Colony Junior High
- Nichols-Mock Elementary
- R. L. Stevenson Primary
- Red Duke Elementary
- Walt Disney Elementary
Friendswood ISD scored an 92 out of a possible 100 points, which translates to an A, according to the TEA scores. The score means the district will retain its letter grade, which has been an A since at least the 2021-22 school year.
The district has scored a 92 since the 2023-24 school year, TEA data shows.
FISD stayed the same or did not improve in all three categories, according to the data. Those scores are:
- 92 in student achievement, which remains the same since the 2023-24 school year
- 80 for school progress, which is down from 83
- 92 for closing the gaps, which is down from 93
Every school in the district scored an A.
"We are incredibly proud of the efforts of our students, staff and community in achieving an 'A' rating in Friendswood ISD," Superintendent Thad Roher said in an email Aug. 13. "While this rating is based on a single assessment from one day, it reflects the ongoing dedication and hard work happening throughout the year. We remain committed to helping every student grow, learn and succeed each day."
Pearland ISD
Pearland ISD scored a 91 out of a possible 100 points, which translates to an A, according to the TEA scores. The score means the district has upped its letter grade from a B for the first time.
The district has consistently scored an 89 since the 2021-22 school year, data shows.
PISD improved its score in all three categories, according to the data. Those scores are:
