Alvin ISD’s board of trustees approved several purchases for facility improvements, including heating boilers and chillers at various campuses, Aug. 12.

In a nutshell

Alvin High School will receive two new boilers, which will cost over $166,500, and Alvin Junior High will receive one new boiler, which will cost nearly $90,600. The current boilers have met the end of their life cycles, according to district documents.

Both projects will take about seven to eight weeks to procure the parts and about four to five days to install, according to district documents.

The board also approved $200,120 for the semiannual preventative maintenance service agreement for 33 water-cooled chillers at various AISD campuses, including:

The biannual service agreement covers annual maintenance of chillers, including oil and refrigerant testing, cleaning condenser water tubes and twice-yearly checks to ensure the equipment is operating within specifications, according to district documents.

One last thing

Trustees approved a curtain wall replacement for Manvel High School’s natatorium to replace the current one, which has met the end of its life cycle, according to district documents.

The replacement will cost nearly $157,000 and will take six to eight weeks to procure the parts and about two weeks to install.
