Friendswood ISD’s board of trustees on July 14 approved a salary compensation package that will provide salary increases for all teachers and staff members.

Some of these increases reflect the state-mandated increase for teachers based on House Bill 2, which passed during the 2025 legislative session and will provide permanent raises for teachers across the state through the teacher retention allotment.

What you need to know

For teachers, the approved compensation package will consist of the following:
  • $1,200 increase through a market alignment stipend for teachers with zero to two years of experience
  • $2,500 state-mandated salary increase for teachers with three to four years of experience
  • $5,000 state-mandated salary increase for teachers with five or more years of experience
Along with that, all other staff will get a 2% raise, and custodians and paraprofessionals who are on a higher tiered pay scale will have an increased starting pay, according to budget documents.

The total budgetary impact for fiscal year 2025-26 will be over $2.4 million, according to salary documents.

What else?

With this approved compensation plan, the district is looking at a $1.7 million shortfall for FY 2025-26, according to budget documents.

Since the district’s last budget discussion June 9, the projected shortfall for FY 2025-26 has shrunk from $1.9 million to $1.7 million. Several factors contributed to this decrease, including:
  • $1M projected decrease in tax collections
  • $503,000 projected increase in state funding
  • $770,375 projected increase in other source funding
  • $88,000 projected increase from Teacher Retirement System on-behalf funding
  • $46,000 projected increase in salary expenses
  • $9,600 projected increase in operating budget expenses
The district is still projecting a tax rate of $1.02 per $100 valuation of a home. This is a decrease of $0.02 per $100 valuation of a home compared to the current tax rate of $1.04 per $100 valuation of a home, according to budget documents.

Next steps

The budget and tax rate will be considered for adoption by the board Aug. 25 at the district’s board room, located at 402 Laurel Drive, Friendswood, officials said.
