Friendswood ISD’s board of trustees will review campus handbook supplements at its July 14 meeting. These supplements include the district’s new cellphone policy and updated food delivery rules.

What you need to know

While the student code of conduct and official handbooks are not yet updated to reflect recent legislation, the handbook supplement has been prepared by FISD administration and is ready to review, according to board agenda documents.

The notable change in all campus handbooks will be the district’s new away-for-the-day cellphone policy, which includes the implementation of YONDR pouches, magnetic lockable phone pouches.

The YONDR pouches will be used for sixth through 12th graders, and “does not allow students to use or possess personal cell phones or other electronic devices, specifically AirPods and smart watches, for any reason during the instructional day,” the policy reads.

More information on the district’s new policy can be found on the FISD website.

What else?

Another notable change in all campus handbooks is the restriction of food deliveries at Friendswood Junior High School.

This new policy, which cites that “food deliveries from outside vendors or family members are not permitted during the school day,” is similar to Friendswood High School’s, board documents note.
