Amid the ongoing rise in student enrollment at Alvin ISD, the district has been ranked the eighth largest growing district in the Greater Houston area, according to a report from Population and Survey Analysts, or PASA.

An updated demographic report was presented to AISD’s board of trustees at its June 10 meeting.

The overview

Over the past five years, AISD has added over 3,000 students, which is an increase of over 11%, according to PASA.
Enrollment is expected to grow by nearly 23%, or by nearly 7,000 students, by 2034-35. This is about a 3% projected increase from a previous report administered by demographic firm Zonda Demographics in April.
What else?

In regard to housing development, there are 17 single-family developments that are in construction or being planned. This is expected to bring over 20,000 new single unit occupancies, PASA data shows.

For multi-family and rental projections, PASA presented the following:
  • 2,734 rental occupancies projected
  • 3 projects in development
  • 4.3% of students are projected to come from multi-family units
The takeaway

Based on projected housing and enrollment, PASA documents note the district’s growth “could drive the need for four new elementary schools and one new junior high school in the next 10 years.”

The district’s 2024 bond will fund some of the following:
  • Two new elementary schools
  • One new junior high school
  • One replacement campus to replace Stevenson Primary and Disney Elementary
  • Land acquisition for future school sites
