The overview
The natatorium, located at 1115 Falling Leaf Drive, Friendswood, and adjacent to Friendswood High School, will undergo resurfacing from June 2 through July 31, according to district agenda documents.
This project will include emptying the pool, addressing rebar penetration and resurfacing the pool, according to district documents.
This project will add 10-12 years to the pool’s life cycle, FISD’s Chief Financial Officer Amber Petree said at the meeting.
The facility will be closed for public and private use during that time, district documents note.
The cost
This project will be funded with just over $175,000 from maintenance tax note funding, along with nearly $73,000 from capital project funding, according to district documents.
What else?
A new natatorium supervisor will also be onboarded to the district soon. Their role will include monitoring the chemicals in the pool and ensuring the chemicals don’t eat away at the plaster in the pools, which helps with longevity, Petree said.
