Pearland designated as 94th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community

The city of Pearland has been recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office, according to an April 20 news release from the Office of the Governor.

Pearland is the 94th certified community and the 10th in the Greater Houston and Galveston area, according to the TMO website.

“As a local venue owner, we have a strong sense of community and pride in providing local musicians the opportunity to show off their art and talent at our Taproom,” Rob Ray's Taproom owner Rob Bromley said in the news release. “The Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation gives us an opportunity to raise awareness about our local music scene.”

The city marked the designation with a ceremony April 25 during the Pearland Grand Arts & Eats Festival, located at 2314 Grand Blvd., Pearland, according to the news release.

The recognition follows the completion of a multi-step certification process that included hosting a workshop, establishing a local music industry database and forming an advisory board, according to the TMO website.

Some context

Launched by the Texas Music Office in 2016, the goal of the Music Friendly Texas program is to support economic development and employment tied to the music industry in communities across the state, according to the news release.

The Texas music industry accounts for more than 196,000 jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide, according to the news release.

With the designation, Pearland now holds three statewide recognitions as a Film Friendly Texas, Tourism Friendly Texas and Music Friendly Texas Certified Community, according to the news release.
