Longtime Magnolia council member and Mayor Pro Tem Patsy Williams died Nov. 15.
"I think Patsy is well-known around Magnolia for giving so many years of dedication to the city," said Tana Ross, Magnolia economic development coordinator and friend of Williams. "Patsy was a friend to absolutely everyone. I hope people will remember her for her contagious laughter, her joy of life and her strong faith."
Williams was elected to office in May 1992 and served on City Council since that time. She served as mayor pro tem from 1994-95, and then served in that same capacity from 2001 until her death.
Williams was a resident of Magnolia since 1955. She is survived by her husband, Jonny, three children, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-granchildren.
Williams and her husband owned and operated Windstar Service & Equipment and Windstar Wheels. She served on the Montgomery Texas Historical Society, the CDBG Grant Fund for Montgomery County and the Magnolia Historical Society Magnolia, which she founded.
"Her experience is going to be hard not having around," Magnolia Mayor Todd Kana said. "She has always been deeply involved, and it's going to be hard without her. Her wisdom, knowledge and experience will be greatly missed."
Residents gathered at Unity Park on Nov. 17 to decorate the Williams Pavilion with Christmas decorations in honor of Williams, who loved Christmas, Ross said.
"Who knows, maybe Patsy Williams day will catch on and be an ongoing event," Ross said.
