Business has remained relatively steady for the Bar-B-Que Hut since it moved from its longtime location on Magnolia Blvd. to Old Hempstead Road in May 2011.
"It has its good days and off days just like it did at the other location," owner and chef Ella Keyser said. "You might be real busy today and slow tomorrow, but that's the restaurant business."
Keyser said she plans on using the new location's extra space for indoor seating once the city extends the sewage system out to the Hut.
In the meantime, she said she is content with the way business has been. All the food is still homemade from scratch and the meat-stuffed potatoes continue to be one of the most popular dishes.
When Keyser opened the restaurant in December 1989, there were only a few restaurants in Magnolia. Over the years, as Magnolia's population has grown, new restaurants have come and gone, but the Bar-B-Que Hut has lasted.
Keyser said she attributes the Hut's success to its homemade food and her reliable return customers, as well as people promoting the restaurant through word of mouth.
With no major menu changes planned for the future, Keyser is just going to keep focusing on what helped the Bar-B-Que Hut earn its reputation—good freshly prepared food.
