Six major transportation projects are being planned, are underway or will kick off soon across the Greater Houston area. This list is not comprehensive and details are subject to change.

Upcoming projects

1. Mykawa Road widening

Project: Construction on Mykawa Road will consist of roughly 3 miles of a four-lane divided boulevard with storm drainage, signals, lighting, landscaping and a 10-foot shared-use path, among other features.

Update: 90% of design submittals have been received and are being reviewed by Pearland city staff and the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT is bidding, constructing and managing the project.
  • Timeline: construction slated to start in 2028 with a completion in 2030
  • Cost: $21.4 million
  • Funding sources: Houston-Galveston Area Council, bonds and other sources
2. Lake Woodlands Drive at Gosling Road intersection improvements


Project: The project will extend turn lanes from eastbound Lake Woodlands Drive onto northbound Gosling Road. It will also extend turn lanes from westbound Lake Woodlands Drive onto southbound Gosling Road.

Update: Engineering design was complete in early December and utility coordination was ongoing, Montgomery County Precinct 3 officials said.
  • Timeline: Construction will begin in early 2026.
  • Cost: $40,000 (design)
  • Funding source: Montgomery County road bond
3. Nelson Way extension and bridge construction

Project: The project will connect Pin Oak Road and FM 1463 with a four-lane bridge.

Update: At a Dec. 8 meeting, Katy City Council unanimously approved a $4.46 million construction contract with C.E. Barker LTD.Ongoing projects


4. Mills Branch Drive asphalt overlay project

Project: Houston Public Works will complete upgrades to Mills Branch Drive in Kingwood, including improving the mill and asphalt overlays, according to a Nov. 25 news release from Houston council member Fred Flickinger’s office.

Update: Construction is expected to take 40 days, depending on weather, and no interruptions to water or sewer service are expected.

5. Spring Cypress Road and Louetta Road asphalt rehabilitation

Project: In the Spring and Klein area, this project will rehabilitate asphalt on Spring Cypress Road, from west of Stuebner Airline to east of T.C. Jester Boulevard, and Louetta Road, from Old Louetta to east of Champion Forest Drive.


Update: Work has begun along Spring Cypress Road to replace asphalt as part of an asphalt rehabilitation effort.Completed projects

6. Valley Ranch Bend Drive

Project:
A new roadway has opened in Valley Ranch in New Caney, officials with developer The Signorelli Co. announced in a Dec. 15 news release. The road, which connects with an existing portion of Valley Ranch Bend, serves to connect residential neighborhoods with Valley Ranch Town Center, a spokesperson for the development company said via email Dec. 18.

Update: The roadway opened to the public on Dec. 10, according to the release.
