On July 23, the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner's Office launched a survey to gather community feedback for a master parks plan that community leaders hope to develop by the end of the year.

In a nutshell

Precinct 4 has acquired pockets of land that county leaders are hoping to revamp into parks using grants from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Precinct 4 Chief of Staff Josh Pascua said July 25.

“We want to try to see what we can do to provide additional green space for folks for recreation,” Pascua said.

To qualify for the grants, the precinct must create a master parks plan, which includes community input, Pascua said.

The three-minute survey includes questions on:
  • Park use
  • Park quality
  • Safety feedback
  • Desired park amenities

Precinct 4’s master parks plan survey will be kept open until about mid- to late August, but the deadline can be extended if there is demand for it, Pascua said. County officials said they will meet with stakeholder groups to spread awareness about the survey and to translate feedback into the master parks plan.

The county is also working with landscape architecture students at Texas A&M University to kick off the master parks plan efforts, Pascua said.

“This kind of parks master plan hasn't been done in Montgomery County before, so we're kind of learning as we go and trying to figure it out,” he said.
